Robert Molteno in the Little Karoo

The Molteno Family history website has been set up by Robert Molteno.  Born in South Africa in 1943, I  grew up in Cape Town. My father was Donald Barkly Molteno. After university in South Africa and Manchester, I taught for some years at the University of Zambia. I subsequently moved to London where I became a publisher and was Managing Editor of Zed Books, a specialist publisher on developing countries, for nearly three decades. Now retired, I live in London. My interest in the history of the Molteno family dates back to the 1990s. What exists on this website has only been possible because of the writings of numerous members of the family down the generations, and the assistance and encouragement I have received from so many members of the family over the past twenty years.

Getting in touch

After putting a great deal of time and effort into researching the family history, Robert sadly passed away quite suddenly in 2022. A few of his nieces and nephews are hoping to keep his website going and would love it to become a place where the many Molteno families can find out more about each other, as well as keep the family tree updated – coming soon…
